19.07// BDS 3 Llangollen

I rolled up to round three mid afternoon on the Friday to check out the track. I had heard so many mixed reviews about it I was looking forward to finding out what it was really like. So I started the track walk and was feeling pretty positive about the track until I got above the woods, where I realised just how steep it was. I had never ridden anything this steep before and apparently last years track was steeper! Still I walked all the way up to the top and sorted all my lines before having a rough night sleep worrying about it.

Saturday morning came and it was another amazingly sunny day, I got on one of the first uplifts so that I didn’t wait around worrying about it, and after my first run down my views completely changed. I now love this track, it was no where near as scary as I thought it would be and with only two small crashes in practise I was feeling really confident about it. Unfortunately one of the other women - Ellie - broke her leg on the Saturday morning leaving just two of us to battle it out. I knew Rosie would be hard competition because if she doesn’t fall off she is pretty fast.

On Sunday morning I decided to just do one practise run, which was smooth and left me feeling confident. I headed up to the seeding run with Rosie trying to improve her confidence as she had fallen off again that morning. Just as we got to the start I saw Harry Phillips leaving the start gate, he unfortunately never made it to the bottom and an air ambulance was sent over and it turned out he had broken his collar bone. An hour later the seeding runs started again and I was happy with my 3:03 and hoped to get under 3mins in the race run. Race runs came and I did what I seem to be doing every race this year and mucked it up, stopping in several places and missing lines, and Rosie did her best run of the weekend, making her 1st and me 2nd. It was great to be on my first BDS podium. And the weather was really nice all weekend which was a big bonus; there hasn’t been a wet BDS race yet this season.
